WebVisions: The Past, Present, and Future of Web Typography

I thought this was an interesting talk while attending the WebVisions conference, about where we’ve been with typography on the web, where we are, and where we’re going. Mark started off this session with a refresher of how far we’ve come with typography on the web. He started by reminiscing the restrictions of the dreadful early days where type was wrapped in a font tag.

Thinking the Unthinkable: How To Spark Disruptive Innovation

Great day of sessions today at WebVisions. I particularly enjoyed the opening keynote by Luke Williams of Frog Design. The topic of his presentation was Thinking the Unthinkable: How To Spark Disruptive Innovation.

The key takeaway here: stop replicating and start innovating. By breaking traditional patterns, you can create an expectation gap, limit your competition, and leave others scrambling to catch up.

Google Flu Trends

Google Flu Trends uses aggregated Google search data to estimate flu activity in your state up to two weeks faster than traditional systems. This is just a great example of using Google’s overabundance of data to capture trends.

SWFObject available on Google AJAX Libraries API

This from the author of swfObject himself, Geoff Stearns, the Google AJAX Library API has now added swfObject to its list of standards compliant open source JavaScript libraries.

What does this mean for you and how you use swfObject in the future? It means you no longer have to store a copy of swfObject on your server. Instead, simply link to:
