My iPhone, My self: Is an iPhone your destiny, too?

Author: valerie

Day 51. Twenty-eight percent of American mobile subscribers now have 3G devices, which is finally on par with the largest countries in Europe. And for 51 days, I have been self-fiveing for finally being a part of that group. For the low low price of (I’ve blocked out how much), I bought myself a ticket to cool. And now, you ask, was it worth it? Here’s my take; feel free to add to the list.

10 Signs an iPhone is Your Destiny

Do you enjoy:
1. Paying less attention to your significant other
2. Being an attention whore
3. Nervously watching your 7-year-old nephew play with the Lightsaber app

Mobile minute: Text yourself thin?

Author: valerie

One contributing factor to childhood obesity is a lack of exercise, right? Some kiddos perhaps spend too much time with digital media, say, running around in virtual reality rather than actually running around. This UNC study is a great example of how to harness kids’ engagement with digital media and use it for get-fit good rather than need-to-buy-bigger-pants evil.

Mobile minute: The U.S. has finally caught up

Author: valerie

I was doing a little research for the GeoNav pitch and found, to my surprise, that the U.S. has actually caught up with Western Europe in adopting 3G devices. This, of course, doesn’t mean that all those who have 3G devices actually use them, but it appears that we’re less behind than I thought. So wipe that smug smile off your stylish faces, my Euro-fab friends. You may be able to speak five languages and pull off much more fashionable clothing than I, but your mobile device isn’t necessarily better than mine. Than Johnny Le’s, at least. So there.

“Yes We Can” change the political advertising game

Author: valerie

This has been an historic Presidential race. There’s the gender thing. The race thing. The record fundraising thing. And yes, the advertising thing. “Emerging media” don’t seem so kooky when embraced so fully and arguably, effectively, by a political campaign. Both potential Presidents have the requisite Facebook and MySpace profiles, but Obama announced his running mate through a text messaging campaign. He built his own social network. He sends regular Twitter updates. He developed an iPhone app. And now another first– he’s advertising in video games.

To varying degrees, all of these tools embrace the social, participative nature of the Web and use the buzz of the blogosphere to get people talking. (Gamers have been talking about these ads for days but the story was just confirmed yesterday.) Now this is political advertising change I can believe in.
